Most folks learning to use a shaving brush start off with shaving cream, as it's very easy to get solid results with. By comparison, traditional shaving soap takes more work but offers great rewards.

 

First off, a soap requires more effort to lather, but the result is an incredibly slick lather that is a lot of fun to shave with. Traditional soaps can also come in really cool wooden bowls, and care usually more cost effective.
