  • The Best Groomsmen Gifts that Last a Lifetime

by Nathan Gareau Last updated: April 12, 2022

Since you’re reading this, I’d bet money that you’re planning to get married soon, in which case - congratulations! Getting married to that special someone is fantastic, both on your big day and every day afterwards. While getting married is all about you and your life partner celebrating your love, it can also bring you closer to some other very special folks: your groomsmen.

Your groomsmen deserve something extraordinary. Lucky, that's our specialty!

Be them friends, siblings, a father, or Jason Segel; there’s a reason they’re standing by you on your wedding day. They have your back. With this in mind, it’s no wonder most grooms choose to show their appreciation with a special gift. But what single item (or group of items) is worthy of such a claim? Based on my own experience as a married man, and the countless future grooms I’ve helped over the years, I have some straightforward advice and many stunning recommendations that will help you show your groomsmen what they mean to you. First, start with these steps:

    1. Get them something extraordinary. Before any other consideration, you should be exclusively on the lookout for things that’ll make them say “holy ****!” when they open their gift.
    2. Get them something that will last a lifetime. A well-made belonging they can use regularly and think of you when they do acts as a symbol of your friendship for decades to come.
    3. Get them something that suits them. Something truly special to them that engages with one of their hobbies or passions or something they’ve always wanted to pursue. Don’t be afraid to get each guy something different.

With that in mind, let’s start with a few winners that answer #1 and #2 with ease. These are my go-to suggestions when I’m helping someone find a gift.

The Best Groomsmen Gifts that last a lifetime

Handmade Axes are an awe-inspiring tool that can be used in the backyard, taken camping, or even hung artfully on a wall. A well-made axe will last multiple lifetimes. I know for a fact because I inherited a couple of decades-old Hultafors axes when my grandfather passed, and we often see customers bring in family heirloom axes for a tuneup. You can’t go wrong with a Hultafors; 300 years of axe-making tradition is all the convincing I need to trust their craftsmanship.

Handmade axes are super cool, and they make a statement. Need I say more?

Speaking of sharp stuff, a sturdy knife is essential for daily life. I haven’t met a single adult that didn’t need a reliable pocket knife for everyday tasks. James Brand makes some magnificent modern everyday carry blades built with the best materials and a modern aesthetic. If your guys might be more traditional, consider a classic folder from Buck or Boker.

I’m a sucker for a good fixed-blade knife. I even think they make an excellent accessory to a suit, venue, crowd, and alcohol consumption permitting. For me, it’s always a Helle. Helle knives are gorgeous and come from a rich Scandinavian knife-making tradition, but they’re also hugely multipurpose. They are purpose-built for hunting and camping but are just as much as home carving wood, deboning a chicken, or used as an ostentatious letter opener.

I would be honoured to give or receive any of these blades. In fact, I already own two of them!

While not every man has a cleanly shaven face, just about every guy out there uses a razor at some point in their life. Even fully bearded fellows will use a razor on occasion to trim up the edges of their beard, especially for special events such as weddings. No tool is cooler and better suited to shaving than a classic straight razor. When a person gets a straight razor in their hand, they feel instantly badass, intrigued by this ancient tool that intimidates and inspires in equal measure. Whether they use it every day or just on special occasions, a straight razor tells a story and is often passed down through generations in a family.

While straight razors are incredibly awesome, many folks are afraid of them. They’re easier to use than you think, but some folks want a more effortless shave. A safety razor shaving kit is a great way to give an extraordinary yet practical gift.

A good razor and brush on a fancy stand paired with some lovely shaving cream and aftershave is a gift that keeps on giving. Our basic Hoxton kit is a great budget-friendly option, while our Deluxe Shaving Kit is packaged smartly in a Dopp kit with a higher-quality brush. Pair a kit with any product from Castle Forbes, Truefitt & Hill or D.R. Harris, and you’ve got yourself the shave of a lifetime!

A quality razor can be used for both clean shaves and beard trims.

Perhaps your bearded groomsmen are especially razor-averse, or you just want to treat them to a gift more specific to their face fuzz. No sweat, we have everything a beard needs and more! Let’s start with the essentials of beard care: washing, brushing, and moisturizing. Our beard care kit contains all three essentials. Add in an oil and balm, and you’ve got a truly fantastic set! If you’re looking to go a little fancier, you can always upgrade your brush to a Kent of England Beard & Hair brush, which are known to last up to 50 years. Captain Fawcett makes some fancier oils and balms made with the absolute best ingredients, and altogether in a Dopp Kit, your set will be looking rather spiffy!

I guarantee you'll find the right gifts for your groomsmen between our shaving, beard, outdoor, and everyday carry products. If I’ve piqued your interest, but you’re not quite feeling any of these items, don’t sweat; we have a lot more to choose from. Get in touch or swing by the shop, and we’ll be happy to help you find the perfect groomsmen gifts. Good luck on your big day!
