This black honing rod is perfect for maintaining a knife’s edge between sharpenings. 3-6 strokes on each side of the blade will keep it silky and awesome. Forget what you’ve seen from the TV chefs. You don't need a ton of pressure or speed. Just be precise and gentle. Any questions? Check out the GIF below to see how it's done!
If you’re looking to hone the edges of knives during sharpening, we prefer the coarser, white honing rod because it does a better job of cleaning burrs.

Honing

"I like the part of the handle which provides a guide for both 15° and 20° honing. Nice handle group."

Ceramic Honing Rod

"It was suggested I purchase this as I did not have one, I only had a couple of other sharpening apparatus and they let me know why this would be a better choice, and much better for my knives. Was properly trained in how to use it by my sales clerk, and it actually does an amazing job at keeping my knives in top order."

Great Product - Great Price

"I picked up a couple of things on my Knifewear order. . . a Knifewear Ceramic Honing Rod and a very cool Seki Kanetsugu Miyabi Isshin Sujihiki knife. Ordering was easy. . . delivery took about a week, no charge. . . and the packaging was perfect! Very happy with both products. The Sujihiki knife is very sharp out of the box, and the Knifewear Honing Rod is perfect for maintaining that edge. Highly recommended!"

Q&A

Hello ! Any idea of when these will be back in stock ? Would love to get one at the same time as a knife. thanks !
Hey there, we should have them back in 2-3 weeks, are you signed up for a back in stock email? - Ellie
i assume the black rod is harder than the white one i wanna use it for my masamoto nakiri which is 62 HRC SRS13 steel is this black rod hard enough to handle my knife ? ive been told steel rod or white rods will dull my knife due to the knives steel being so hard
Hey there! The white rod is fine for your srs steel knife, but a steel rod is definitely bad for it! Too aggressive! However, personally I'd go for a black rod on any hard powder stainless steels, as you suspected it is "harder" and does a finer job honing really hard steels!
I own five Shun Premier knifes. Which rod would you recommend? My inclination is black.... But, I’m somewhat ambivalent about the making the right choice. Please, advise. Thanking you in advance, Vladimir.
Hey Vladimir, You can't really go wrong with either, I've used black ones primarily for all of my knives and have zero complaints. Generally however, I recommend the white rod for softer steels such as VG10. since it is a bit coarser it gives it a bit more bite and seems to make a noticeable difference a lot quicker. You may end up just having to use the black rod a bit more often but it will still do a great job on your knives, if you end up going with it. Alex
Hey how durable are these, if I drop it will it break?
They are pretty durable, they have a steel rod in the centre of them and a rubber tip to give it some strength, we've dropped ours at the stores hundreds of times and I've never seen one break - Ellie
Hi there, we have a couple of the Masakage Yuki knives and i’m Interested in buying a honing tool, would you recommend the black or white for the these knives?
Hey there, either is great, I personally use the white rod, as it is a little more coarse, so it works a tad faster! - Ellie
