How To Properly Store Your Perfumes & Colognes
Whether you're a collector of fine perfumes and colognes, or you've been rocking the same signature scent for years, knowing how to properly store your fragrance is key to improving it's longevity and scent!
Like all things in life, entropy remains constant, and impermanence is real! All things are in a state of decay and the inevitable aging of a perfume's molecular makeup and lessoning of it's scent is a natural process, it's true - but if you follow these plain and easy tips, you can combat these elements and vastly improve the shelf life of these wonderful creations!
Keep Them Secret, Keep Them Safe
Now, you must become like the dragon hoarding away it's treasure in a dark cave in the mountain - no seriously, top priority for fragrance care and storage is keeping these precious babies hidden away! Inside the catacombs of a dark box, or dry closet space is a perfumes favourite place to be. Protection from the elements is essential in keeping your fragrances from diluting and losing their bright scent over time.
How Long Are Perfumes Good For?
The amount of degradation your perfume experiences can vary a lot - which is to say, there is no real exact answer to this question. That said, the same perfume that's kept open and in direct sunlight might only last a couple months compared to the one in a dark box hidden away for years. It's all about how you take care of them, and of what quality they are. The Bathroom Misconception
A common storage problem comes with what room you are keeping your perfumes in and though the bathroom is often where fragrances get applied, it's never a good idea to keep them there permanently. The constant fluctuation in temperature and moisture of a bathroom can cause many issues for your fragrances and with that in mind we recommend folks to keep them in their bedrooms as an alternative.
How To Store Perfume In Your Bedroom
Chances are, your bedroom is a nice even and constant temperature with minimal humidity, but UV light from the day can still creep in and cause issue for your precious elixirs! This is why we recommend keeping them stored in a bedroom cabinet, dresser, or even a large shoebox in the closet. Keep the bottles upright to avoid any leaking and even using the packaging they came in can be that extra protection you might need if placed in the dresser drawer.
Humidity Vs Dryness : Why Balance is Important
Often folks hear the problem with storing their fragrances in the bathroom and go in the extreme opposite direction, but too dry of a climate can be a problem for evaporation of your perfume as well! This is why it's essential to keep your fragrances in an area with a nice balanced climate, on the side of dry over humid. This will keep your wonderful collection from drying out and disappearing before your very eyes!
